CONTEMPORARY DESIGNER LESSON AND CASE STUDY:
'BEC & BRIDGE'
FAME OR FAILURE?
There are many factors that can determine the success or failure of a designer, including:
-External factors including economic, political, social, ecological and technological
-Internal factors including expertise, facilities and financial
-Trends in society that impact apparel designers
ACTIVITY ONE:
In the YouTube video on the right hand side of this page, Fashion Journalist Alexa Chung talks to fashion design students about some of the challenges they have faced in the industry.
Watch the video and post the answers to the following on the class Facebook page:
-List one external factor, one internal factor, and one trend in society that affected the designers in this video.
-Pick one of the factors above and provide a solution as to how the designer may overcome its effects.
ACTIVITY TWO:
Consider how things have changed. Imagine what it was like to be a fashion designer in the 50s as opposed to now in the 2000s.
For both eras, explain one positive advantage and one negative disadvantage that fashion designers may have experienced.
